Jene Licausi: Scooter Vs Motorcycle Safety
Josefine Weekey: Firstly a service will not fix worn out engines or gearboxes or clutches. The dealer should do what is required in the factory service manual according to the mileage. They should adjust everything like brakes, throttle cable, clutch, chain, steering head bearings, etc .They should also change oils and filters spark plugs if needed and take it for a road test maybe 2 or 3 miles, no more. they should ring u if anything else/ expensive is needed like new tyres etcYou should expect your bike to feel quite different and improved when u get it back. A dodgey dealer may charge u and do little or nothing. If it feels no different they may have done nothing at all since u left it, thankfully there arn't many about but watch out. Ring around and get at least 3 prices.£100 sounds a lot, u may get it a bit cheaper, but don't forget oil, filters and Vat bump up the price.
Gordon Showes: not sure about that spe! cific bike but theres one for sale in this months issue (september) of walnecks classic cycle.page# 7they're made with the little 136''c.i.flathead V8 ford 60 engine(1937-1940), usually in a modified indian 4 frame.honest charley used to sell a few & individuals have been making their own for 60 years or more.there was a lot of speed equipment available for the ford 60 V8 in the 50's because they were popular in the little sprint car racers&they were just small enough to fit in a sretched cycle frame if you could figure out a drive system.most had no tranny, just a right angle drive from a boat.a shaft drive guzzi should be easier to rig up.
James Langmyer: You cannot ride any road, side or dirt, without license or tag. You cannot go 20 miles from your home.
Will Camus: i cant give you a statistic but a scooter is way safer. doesnt get very high up in speed, and are easier to control.
Donny Bankson: Hello there, I live in Northern California and the DMV a! nd Insurance companies rate scooters and motorcycles the same ! i.e. on my insurance documents and my DMV registration it states Motorcycle. When I attended a DMV approved motorcycle training course, they didn't make the distinction either. In fact, since I was the only one in class that had a scooter and the rest had motorcycles, the trainer told me "scooters are not safer. In fact most bike accidents occurs on the city streets going less than 30 mph." You are on two wheels, on pavement, going speeds up to 40+ mph on the city streets and you can hurt yourself on either scooter or motorcycle. In Saturday's paper (www.pressdemocrat.com) there was an article about motorcycle accidents and the stats based on several areas where mistakes are made and why. In Friday's paper, there was an article on the rise of scooter sales due to the gas prices. Check those out. I would recommend that you DON'T make the distinction. They are both fun and they both need to be respected. Take a Safety course; then take another. Then ride through out the week t! o gain experience. Read those articles I mentioned. Enjoy, Sue...Show more
Charline Granes: U CANNOT ride a dirtbike on any USA road or street. Not even a named dirt road. Pick any road or highway and ride in the ditches beside the paving.
Fritz Hawkey: The question is how big of a scootie you are looking at I've seen them from 50 up to 400ccs. My daughter rode a 50 cc machine bright orange and still people didn't see her.The big thing that makes one safer over the other is in my opinion where the centre of gravity is. On her scootie the CoG was much higher making the beastie a little easier to tip than a bike with its lower CoG but I can't address the bigger scooters I think that their CoG would be low as well.. The other part of your question is on statistics more people are hurt or killed on bikes in North America because there are more of them. In Europe Italy or Spain say the reverse I would assume there are more scooters hence more accidents....Show! more
Rosalba Lingner: My knowledge of US geography is limited bu! t it seems your trip is across 3/4 of the US. oh why do I bother. You are just an idiot who deserves to get caught. Hopefully in some redneck town where they will lock you up for a few weeks. Maybe you will get caught in a blizzard...
Esmeralda Pigram: Any bike with 50cc or more is (legally anyway) a motorcycle, but regardless of engine displacement, you can be killed on any two wheeled vehicle be it a Vespa, Honda, Harley, or Schwinn. Perhaps you feel that you are not ready for the Honda CB350s and just have not made that connection in your head yet. My opinion is don't let fear limit your options. Take a motorcycle safety class and then you can make a better decision of what to ride. If it's just a displacement thing and you have already stated that you like Vespas check out the Vespa GTS 250. Honda and Yamaha also have 250cc scooters. If 250cc are not enough, there are larger displacement scooters on the market as well. Yamaha Majesty 400 Honda Silverwing 600 Suzuk! i Burgman 650 I use a Honda Reflex scooter to commute to work. Is the Reflex better or cooler then the above bikes? I Do Not Know, but the Reflex is my choice of scooter, and I am happy with that choice. It is my hope that you will be as happy with the bike you choose to ride as I am with the one I choose to ride. Marion Wieboldt: niether are more dangerous than the other. If you want opinions, youll find those.. if you want statistics youll find those too.But niether are more dangerous. But what i would say is what ever mode of transport you have it must be capable of keeping up with modern traffic.. So i would say for UK easily reach 30mph and capable of going up to 60-70mph.I think youll find that age will affect the statistics, i imagine that under 24 are high risk and the 'born-agains'...Show more
Chadwick Schmelz: I can't find any links or info for it.Not even on the Cycle world site.I would like to re-read the article. I think it! was from 01. They even made a toy of it.Please don't answer with linx ! for Boss Hoss or others. This Guzzi actually looked like it was supposed to have that Flathead in it.
Lita Thammorongsa: I am going to Wisconsin and Michigan on my way to California for a dirtbike for a trip. Is there side roads I can go on without a license or tag on my bike?
Wally Perrien: 5 a year... motorcycle
Letitia Bigelow: It isnt always the person on the bike but it is the drivers in the cars that dont look out for us..
Hyo Hardell: i don't know the stats but if either has an accident with a car or truck, the chances are grim. if you were to lay it down, the scooter is lighter so your chances of getting hurt are less. also the exhaust manifold is more pronounced on the motorcycle and a greater chance for a leg burn. get the motorcycle if you canI have tried to help you by answering your question, now it's your turn to help...Would you vote for my niece Eileen Friedman (2nd from the left) online? Damion Oleksa: I will tell you first hand. I have crashed on both a Kawasaki Ninja, and a Honda Ruckus (scooter) In case of an accident, a Scooter is far safer. They are much lighter, and it seems like you are almost protected by the step through design. On a step over motorcycle, in the event of a crash, your leg will be pinched between the motorcycle and the road. Braking: Trade offs exist here. Motorcycles have more braking power, but, that also makes you able to lock up the front wheel, and crash. On scoots with drums, full brakes gives you no danger. Accident avoidance: Motorcyle wins! Much more power for accelerating out of sticky situations. Overall: Noobs, stick to scoots! Veterans, get a bike!Mike...Show more
Maria Devenney: Lots of people usally die on a motorcycle onetime i saw someone get killed using a motorcycle there was alot of blood The scoot! er is probably the safetest because it goes slow and easy to handle
!
Mark Hovanes: Depends on the situation and the rider. I usually rent a scooter when I go to Mexico and it is more dangerous there because it hasn't got the acceleration to get out of trouble or the stopping power to avoid trouble. Scooter just aren't very nimble. But for an inexperienced rider on mellow streets a scooter would be safer.
Leif Andreason: Considering your grammar is atrocious, I would suggest not going on the trip.
Roni Kurz: I don't know where you'd go to get statistics. As far as I know, scooters and motorcycles are lumped together as 'two wheeled vehicles' in statistics. The place to look is:http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/I wasn't able to find anything on 'scooters' except as '2-wheeled vehicles'. But I didn't look very long. You might find separate stats if you look. But I think scooters are safer because of the way they're ridden. I live in a suburban area surrounded by mountains (San Francisco Bay Area). The mountains are full of wonderf! ul roads for motorcycles, and on the weekends I see lots & lots of sportbikes on these roads being ridden by young guys with 'testosterone poisoning'. They take a lot of chances. Scooters are used mostly just for transportation. Of course they face a whole different set of hazards riding in crowded cities. But they are usually going slower, which I think makes a big difference.Scooters are designed to be easier to ride. They have a lower center of gravity, and they are more forgiving. They're lighter so there's less chance of them 'getting away from you'.You're right, it's the rider that makes them dangerous. Also the stupid people in cars who don't see them....Show more
