Elvin Mannheimer: Working in the garden has other, less spiritual rewards. In addition to being a source of fresh, healthy produce, gardening can ease stress, keep you limber, and even improve your mood. A recent study in the Netherlands suggests that gardening can fight stress even better than other relaxing leisure activities. The effortless attention of gardening may even help improve depression symptoms. Gardening gets you out in the fresh air and sunshine -- and it also gets your blood moving. The sights, smells, and sounds of the garden are said to promote relaxation and reduce stress. The food you grow yourself is the freshest food you can eat. And because home gardens are filled with fruits and vegetables, it's also among the healthiest food you can eat. You don't need a big backyard or a green thumb to benefit from gardening. If you have very little space or experience, you can start out with just a few houseplants, or you could even try gardening in containers...! .Show more
Janean Guz: Nurse them 'till the ground is past freezing, [May 24] and transplant them in your garden. They will thrive, year after year. Have fun!
Dee Depung: I use gardening as stress relief and think time. Thomas Jefferson once wrote that his thought were never as clear as when he was in his garden doing manual labor. I agree with TJ. Gardening is also a promise of hope. You expect results from all your hard work and the experienced gardener takes steps to ensure good results.
Nia Monopoli: definite you are able to save seeds from particular end result and greens to plant next 365 days and the thank you to do it quite is particularly straight forward. verify which you're taking all pulp and strings off of the seeds which you quite p.c. to maintain. Karl Jantzen: It's marvelous! Unlike many eye sores of writing I've seen on AskYahoo, this was amazing. You connection with the rose was very figurative, and the use of language was terrific. I wish you'd delve a little more into the narrator's relationship with the grandma. It's very good, I'd have to say, and I think that you should be a writer.
Daria Verfaillie: I think that it takes us back to our roots, no pun intended. Our family roots. The things that you learned about gardening came from your parents, what they learned from their parents, and so on. It brings back childhood memories of hated chores, the tas! te of fresh from the garden foods and the smell of the fresh turned earth. There is also the sense of life. You can take a small pot of earth, place a seed inside it, give it sun and water and watch it grow into a life of itself. You nurture it, protect it and then enjoy it as if it was a part of yourself.Gardening, at least for me, is a stress relief. It lets me get away from the chores of the house, the phone, computer and the TV. It also is a chance to enjoy nature. I watch the birds in my yard, the weather changes, the different bugs and my neighbors. We see each other outside doing our gardening activities and chat about what we're growing, plant problems, children, neighbors and everything else. It's a connection. I also find out which neighbors will be sending me the dreaded zucchini....Show more

R! onnie Panas: If you mean how does erosion affect plant life, it destroys root systems, washes away soil and nutrients, and in general has a very negative effect on plant life.
Caroyln Ebach: Everyone of the answers is fantastic!!! I agree with everyone.. the joy of the sun and rain, wind..... seeing everything grow, reaching down and picking something you grew from a little seed, tasting how wonderful it is. I truely believe gardening is good for stress and well being.
Rheba Cockman: It gives you a feeling of accomplishment and it's rewarding to see the results of your work. It is also pleasing to many different senses.
Frank Crummell:
Shamika Schools: I love this question, and the answers are great! I agree with everyone of them and will add that I also use it as a time of reflection. When I go out and start picking weeds out of the garden I always think of weeding the things out of my life that are not good for me. For every weed that I pull! up and discard that is another accomplishment. I know it sounds corny, but when you are out there by yourself, and not having to listen to someone else chatter, it gives you lots of time to reflect....Show more

Many people say its relaxing for the mind and therapuetic because of the interaction with the environment, especially in this world full of tv and computers where we never interact with nature and just watch it on tv. My favorite part is when someone complements then you can say yup it sure is and I grew that. Good luck gardening...Show more
