Question about TiVo?

Omar Phipps: If I remember right, it will record but you can't do the season passes and such... basically it will function as a vcr does. BORING!I suggest going on ebay and search for used ones that have lifetime subscriptions running on them. They are non-transferable (machine to machine) but the ownership doesn't matter on that. The lifetime sub follows the machine. If you are willing to put in oodles of money into it... they usually run specials this time of year where you can get the dvr AND a lifetime subscription. Lifetime isn't generally available anymore. I got an email from them the other day pushing the Series 3 HD with cable card and a lifetime subscription for nearly $800... other models were higher.Lifetime subscription when it was a regular option to buy equaled just over 3 years in price....Show more

Jene Licausi: Pioneer and Toshiba both used to make Tivos that came with free Tivo Basic (fewer bells and whistles than Premium Tivo, but perfectly f! unctional). I have a Pioneer that came with this feature, and I love it. You can find used models on ebay (just search for Tivo Basic). It might be just the thing for your son.

Delmy Varano: No not true, if you or he cant afford the 1 or 2 year fee just buy a DVD R or VCR/DVD Recorder. If you pay the fee, he just hooks it up to the internet or phone line jack.
